The goal of every Christian is to grow in Christ and become like Him. The song, “O’ to be like thee” by Thomas Chisholm captures the elements of our testimony as they should manifest themselves before the world. We find things such as, “Gladly I’ll forfeit all of earth’s treasures,” “Helping the Helpless” and “Seeking the wandering sinner.” God does these things as He, “pour(s) out Thy Spirit” and “fill(s) with Thy Love.”
We often forget that Jesus is a mirror image of the Father. Therefore, as we become more Christlike we likewise become more like the Father. Our image is changed from glory to glory (2 Cor 3:18). We never become god of any kind, we do however develop into His image (1 John 3:2). As we are molded into the image of the Savior, we are molded into an image acceptable in Heaven.
As we develop godliness in our lives and that godliness changes us, conforms us, transforms us into the image of God, we naturally do things differently. We do righteousness as righteousness becomes a regularity in our lives (1 John 3:7). God the Father is perfect in righteousness. God the Son is equally perfect in righteousness. With our faith in Him, His righteousness is credited to our account providing us heavenly righteousness. (Gen 15:6; Rom 3:22)
Become a mirror of the Father. Love as He loves you. Live in purity as He lives pure in Heaven. Show compassion to the sick and infirmed as He shows compassion. Encourage mankind to find His righteousness through faith in His Son, Christ Jesus. In 1 John 5:10-12 the Holy Spirit said,
He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made Him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of His Son. And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
Seek God’s Son and be His mirror image as the Son was the mirror of the Father.
